The people of Bohumín, a small town having the population of twenty three thousand, set up the social, art and cultural life themselves. This is the reason why the activities are close to their minds. Kulturní agentura Radost (the cultural agency) supplements the activities of the civic associations, the Town Library and the Children’s and Youth Centre with imported performances and its own activity. Občanské sdružení Maryška (the civic association) works from its own resources. It is a literary-dramatic club which gives an opportunity to all the beginning artists on its premises. Authors´ readings, exhibitions of drawings, photographs and pieces of art have a lot of enthusiasts in the town. Since 2001 this group has been holding annual multi-genre creative events called “Léto-kruhy Bohumín”. The sculptures from the wood-carving open-air schools which are a part of the one-week festival, decorate the sponsors´ companies, the town hall and the town park.
